A great place to enjoy a moment a tranquilityIt took me quite a while to find the entrance but it was worth it.
amazing
Very sad to see this old cemetery so badly neglected and allot of the headstones overturned. Very atmospheric. Seems to be used by people to walk their dogs as there are lots of bags bin the rubbish bin... A shame that it's not kept in better condition.
In memory or Mr William Still celebrated today by his daughter Fiona
I walk past Warriston Cemetery nearly every day; along the Warriston Path (the old railway line) that splits it in half, but Id never been inside. Warriston Cemetery was Edinburghs first garden cemetery and was designed and built by the Edinburgh Cemetery Company in 1843; prompted by Edinburghs great and good being worried about hygiene in over-crowed kirk-yards (and of course for profit, always for profit). It had been neglected for years until a plucky band of volunteers the friends of Warriston Cemetery started to reveal its secrets. It is now well worth a wander round.
