Beautiful library with a friendly and welcoming staff.
Beautiful Victorian construction library, with excellent and friendly staff.
Would be helpful if there were quiet reading areas. Like the other libraries in town, seems very geared towards kids so not ideal if you're looking for a quiet place to study. Staff seemed very helpful and friendly.
This is a great local library. Part of the Edinburgh City Library network, it has (or can get) any book you want, the internet access is a boon, and there is always something going on in the meeting room adjacent to the main library. The staff are invariably patient, friendly and relaxed too - it is just how libraries should be.
If you're a bibliophile who wants peace, quiet, and a traditional library experience, it's perhaps best to avoid Stockbridge Library in the hour after school has been let out. If you're a book-loving parent new to Stockbridge, then go then! You're sure to meet some like-minded parents - the library is always full at that time of day with parents and children passing a bit of time waiting for older children, or for clubs to finish. There are a number of courses and classes run in one of the large meeting rooms - check out the noticeboard for more information. As libraries go, it's quiet small (a bigger selection can be found at the Central Library on George IV bridge), but as a member of Edinburgh Libraries you can look up the catalogue and get them to order for you.
