Didn't know what I was letting myself in for but really enjoyed it. I am guessing it is like comfort food in Scotland. Very well presented and very tasty. I had the haggis and turnip stack with whole grain mustard mash and a nice creamy whiskey sauce. Definitely go back again.

Makars Gourmet Mash never disappoints & is one of my favourite Edinburgh restaurants. If you love mash, then this is the place... Who would've thought there could be so many versions of the humble mash?! Spoiled for choice as each mash is delicious you need to try them all, the perfect excuse to keep going back! Fantastic vegetarian options. Great food, wonderful ambience & very helpful staff. Well worth a visit.

Had haggis side for the starter as we never had it properly before. It was a lovely sized taste of haggis for beginners. Potato skins with smoked sausage for other starter which is big enough for 2 people. Fresh toppings and original flavours combine for a unique culinary delight. The main event was the mash with spring onion and Smokey bacon topped with a tender fall off bone lamb shank. A classic pub dish done gourmet and delicious. The mash was the stand out element of the dish. Creamy, buttery, and Smokey and a perfect compliment to the lamb. Other main was the beef skirt with rich sauce and unbelievable mushrooms. And the alternative olive oil mash for those with dairy intolerance or a general dislike for dairy. It was the "best mash she ever had"Cracking hearty meal. Reasonably priced and a good drinks menu to match.Would definitely recommend and looking forward to going again.

The food was seriously tasty and the ambience rather lovely. The service was good too. Very good selection of drinks. The mash was delicious - I would recommend the one with cheese in it. We also had haggis here for the first time ever it was really tasty. When visiting Edinburgh, add it on your to-go list!

AMAZING! We decided to go here after it was recommended by our tour guide (Angus)...we figured he was just talking up the place because they give him a kick back for sending tourists their way.....we could not have been more wrong. It was amazing! This was definitely the best meal we've had here in Edinburgh. Excellent food, drink, ambience, and amazing service. Wish I could mention the server by name, but I can't remember, she was awesome and working her tail off to make sure everything was going smoothly. Can't recommend this place enough, try it, you'll love it!
