A simple review, really; if you suffer from a mental health condition and visit this institution to receive treatment, you will be treated like the scum of the Earth. I was referred here after suffering from a schizophrenic episode and, after a wait of about an hour, was taken into a prison-style interrogation room. The privileged, unafflicted people behind the glass informed me that I wasnt taking my own recovery seriously enough (under the influence of said episode, I had stopped taking a certain medication) and promptly dismissed me. Not to mention the fact that other staff members decided to laugh at me after I collapsed from head pain in the lobby.tl;dr - dont bother, its filled with the kind of idiots who will dub you a psychopath.

Place was a building sit got lost on way to assessment area n was agitated sat in some jail cell padded seat room n then got asked in to assessment room with a glass shield over the desk like I was visiting a prisoner that should not be how patients meant to feel got nothing from assessment just sent bk to hostel n ended up all way ended up bk in hostels horrible place n not nice if this was assement area what on earth are wards like

I was there in 1967 good

The institution is a disgrace & should face a rigorous investigation from a regulatory body. There are good nurses who have empathy and compassion,However, there are a few who should simply not be working there & are a threat to the mental health of the patients. The attitude is one that 'you are insane' ( regardless of what mental health issue you have) & therefore your opinion means nothing. Nurses who are complained about punish vulnerable patients through stealth & there is a dire lack of communication between practitioners and patients . Even prisoners probably have the human rights better respected than in this place.Thread carefully if you want to submit a loved one. A psychiatric hospital should aim to provide appropriate therapies to help people get better, not act as a victorian prison to subdue and detain vulnerable people.

The people of Edinburgh deserve so much better than this pathetic excuse for a mental health hospital. Its shameful to the extent that I have had to submit a complaint.
